The concept of these things is different to each and every one of us and can also be different during the various stages our lives.
When people think of success, they quite often think of money. As accountants, I think money would definitely be ranked in our top 5!
There are however many other forms of success:
How are these going for you?
As accountants and business advisors, we pride ourselves on the quality of advice we give to our clients so that they can achieve their financial and personal goals – business success and a nice little nest egg at the end! Yet we get so caught up with deadlines and client demands we so often forget about our own practice, our own financial and personal goals and our own little nest eggs.
My advice is to not think of your nest egg as something that magically gets laid and cracks when you sell your practice. Things are dramatically different to how they were years ago when this type of thinking was the norm. Who knows what the future will be? Who knows how much an accounting practice be worth then? But let’s think about right here right now. Imagine if you were ready to retire or sell out right now. Would there be buyers lining up to buy your practice? And how would you describe your practice to a prospective buyer?
Would it look something like this?
Would you have prospective buyers knocking down your doors?
If you want to be more successful, more balanced and generally be a lot happier than you right now, then you need to say goodbye to those old fashioned accounting practice ways. Because if you don’t, chances are that you will continue to achieve the same results, the same income (maybe less because of the pressures disruption to our industry is bringing) and the same levels of satisfaction that you are experiencing right now. It’s time to embrace a contemporary style of running your accounting practice which is something I did over 10 years ago and I have been reaping the rewards since then – financially, and mentally.
Rewind to over 10 years ago, I had been in practice for myself for 8 years. I had started my practice from scratch from home so I could have that elusive work/life balance! It started off well. I had my first son 9 months after I started and my second son 14 months after that which allowed for my practice to grow at a busy but manageable rate. The time came to move out of the home as I was getting busier and I needed to find someone who could help me out. Year on year the practice grew, the team grew, we needed more room, we moved offices twice and then we decided to buy our own premises which we still own today. As the practice grew the headaches started and my normal day began at 4 am reviewing jobs as there was no time for this during work hours. I had back to back appointments and I didn’t want my growing team to be sitting idle! Something had to change so I made a conscious decision to do so and you can do that too.
I can help you turn things around.
I can help you identify the gaps and blockages in your practice.
I can help you devise a 2018 plan that will not only plug the gaps, clear the blockages and but will get you thriving.
I will share with you the same systems and strategies that I have been using in my practice for over 10 years. One that made my practice a well-oiled machine. One that clients and staff alike loved being a part of. One that made my practice attractive to bring on a partner a few years ago and one that made my practice attractive for a merge with another accounting practice just over six months ago.
If you are keen to implement positive and sustainable change into your practice so you can start spending more time at home with your family instead of more time at the office away from your family. I would love to help you get sorted. You will not believe how good practice life can get. I’ll be open, honest, non-judgemental because I want you to experience the freedom, the calm, the satisfaction that I felt when I got this all under control.
